	Duesseldorf, Germany	Nov 2016	On November 14 and 15th, Jan could attend the Medica 2016 in Duesseldorf. With many new contacts and new developments. One of the major steps forward was meeting Mr. Lu Liansheng of Beijing Kinseng Medical based in Beijing, China. Through him the Chinese version of the book is being compiled. I could see a first proof print!
	Netherlands	Nov 2016	On November 7th the final lecture evening of the second edition an e-leaning program for staff of sterilization departments of hospitals in the Netherlands took place. The final evening for the 33 students that subscribed, took again place at the Summa college in Eindhoven. There were lectures on microbiology, cleaning and sterilization. Jan presented the lecture on sterilization
	Australia, Brisbane	October 2015	The 17th WFHSS (World Forum for Hospital Sterilization Sciences) took place on Oct 25th until Oct 29th in Brisbane, Australia. On Saturday, October 2th Jan could do a presentation on his expierences in Liberia: The aftermath of the Ebola crisis. Hospitals in Liberia preparing for the post Ebola challenge. 	Brussels Belgium	Sept 2016	Attending the JIFS, les Journees Internatiales Francophones de la Sterilisation. During this congress the new second edition of French version of the book on Sterilization was presented!
	Netherlands	April 2016	Guest lecturer at WUR (Wageningen University and Research). Presentation: “Facing The Standards Gap“, in the context of the curriculum on Global Health for bachelor students of Health and Society

	Nigeria	Nov 2015	Umuowa, Imo State, St. Mary’s Children and Community Hospital. Installation of the new semi automatic steam sterilizer AJ-Costa  Uniclave 77; repair of the Matachana sterilizer. Followed by training of staff involved in sterile supply.
	Sweden	Aug 2015	Sodertalje, Lund. Lecture for students Sterile Supply on the experiences in Liberia; physics of steam sterilization. Initiating of the translation of the book on sterilization into Swedish.
	Japan	July 2015	Japan tour. Lecturing visits on sterile supply to Tokyo, Osaka, Oita and Saitama in Japan. On invitation of Meilleur, Japan.
	Liberia	May-July 2015	St. Joseph’s Hospital; Monrovia. Renovation of the sterilisation department of the St. Josephs Hospital. Redesign of the department. An older KSG sterilizer was overhauled. A new Matachana S501 automatic autoclave and a Steriflow Robustex manual autoclave were installed and commissioned. Upon completion, staff was trained.
	Liberia	May-July 2015	JF Kennedy Medical Center, Monrovia. Collaboriation with the local staff for repair and commissioning of the Matachana S1000 autoclave in the Maternity Hospital. Upon successful acceptance tests, staff was trained and production initiated.
	Steriflow, France	2015-2	Visit SteriFlow, sterilizer factory in France. They focus on the production of large sterilizers for the pharmaceutical industry. They however also build the Robustex autoclave, a small, manual operated autoclave designed for use in health facilities in remote areas. It is the autoclave of choice by MSF (Medecins Sans Frontieres) and DRK (German Red Cross) for use in the emergency hospitals. The visit was for evaluation of the Robustex, planned to be procured for St. Josephs hospital in Monrovia, Liberia
	Spain	2015-1	Visit Matachana. For a technical training on the S1000 and S501 autoclaves. As a preparation for a visit to  hospitals in Monrovia Liberia, where these autoclaves are to be repaired, commissioned and trained on.
	Liberia	2014-12	St. Joseph’s Hospital, Monrovia, Liberia Assessment visit for rehabilitation of the sterilization department. The visit took place in the midst of the Ebola crisis. JF Kennedy Medical Centre, Monrovia Brief assessment visit for the repair/commissioning of the steam sterilizer in the sterilization department of the Japan-Liberian friendship maternity hospital.
	Germany	2014	Ebola Preparedness training at Wuerzburg City Fire Fighting School. Organized by the German Red Cross in collaboration with the Medical Mission Institute. I attended as part of my preparation for going to Liberia, for assisting St. Josephs Hospital and JFK Medical Centre in rehabilitating their Sterile Supply Department.

	Nigeria	2012-09	Umuowa, Imo State Hospital. St. Mary’s Children and Community Hospital. Installation of sterilizer and equipment for the operating theatre
	Central African Republic	2012	Bangui. Procurement of Equipment for CoNaSan; Training Sterilization for users and technicians
	Philippines	2010	Davao. Development of modules for the PLAMAHS Asset Management system. A glimpse of paradise
	Laos	2009	Vientiane. Training/Implementation/upgrade of PLAMAHS Asset management system
	Burkina Faso	2009-8	Ouagadougou. Training sterilizer technicans. During a brief visit to Ghana, Ouagadougou was flooded. The buildings of DGIEM were submerged in water. All computer equipment lost; the new books become useless; archives gone. A disaster for the department!

	Malawi	2003	Training for staff of the sterilization departments and sterilizer technicians, for the PAM (Physical Asset Management) department of the Ministry of Health and Population, Lilongwe, Malawi
	Tigray	1992	Evaluation of medical equipment maintenance services in Tigray; the most northern part of the current Ethiopia. At the time, early 1991 controlled by TPLF. Tigray was supplied through food convoys organized through REST, the Relief Society of Tigray, at the time based in London. REST was supported by MEMISA, based in the Netherlands, that requested me to do the evaluation. During the visit a final offensive to Addis Abbeba took place, ending the rule of the then Emperor Mengisto. I kept a diary on the events with the title; From a Fly to a Lion. In due time this story will be also on this site.

		2015-2016	Building the garden house. A long-term dream come true: Building our garden house. We called it “Akwaaba”, “Welcome” in the Ghanaian Twi language. It is a reference to our time that we lived in Ghana in the 1980’s and shared a great time with the Ghanaian people, where we met each other and where we married!
		1990-2016	Surprises  of Quadenoord. Quadenoord, the place where we live, is situated in forests around the town of Renkum, Gelderland, The Netherlands. Every season of the year  nature shows its surprises!
